Each year, Cannes Lions runs one of the most intense creative competitions in the industry alongside the festival itself. The Young Lions competition invites emerging professionals from around the world to respond to live briefs from NGOs, charities and purpose-led organisations, with just 24 hours to develop their ideas, or 48 hours in Film. This year, more than 400 competitors from 69 countries took part across seven categories.
Australia sent ten emerging professionals across five categories. Among them, representing the country in Film, were Juicebox alum Cathal Mongey and his creative partner Joseph Wilkie.
Their brief came from the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation: a 60-second film to shift behaviour around water safety. They had 48 hours. The result earned them a global shortlist, placing them among the top Film teams in the world.
It's a significant achievement in a category judged by members of the Cannes Lions juries during the festival itself, the same juries assessing some of the best creative work produced anywhere in the world that week.
Also on the ground in Cannes, cheering them on, was Juicebox project manager superstar Edna Sweeney.
Congratulations to Cathal, Joe, and the full Australian Young Lions cohort. The industry is in good hands.
