The challenge was to provide better brand recognition and industry access to Australia’s top Earth and planetary sciences school and its new Institute - CFIGS - providing a shopfront to its world-class geoscience research for impactful industry and government solutions in sustainable resource development..

This required a cohesive outward-facing brand that clearly communicated CFIGS’ scientific excellence and real-world impact, elevating stakeholder perception and broadening influence in a competitive and rapidly evolving sector.

Foundational logo mark

A distinct, scalable brand mark mirrors the fractured slab state of samples sent for mineral analysis, integrating the labs foundational process into the brand’s visual language.

Project approach

As leaders in transforming geoscience innovation into sustainable solutions, CFIGS needed their services to be seen through the lens of a powerful and cohesive brand identity that speaks to the foundations of their work.

By harnessing the visual energy of CFIGS raw mineral map scans, data sets are transformed into art pieces, while tailored motion principles echo discovery and create a captivating brand that is progressive and at the forefront of innovation.

Digital experience

CFIGS exists at the intersection of advanced scientific research and real-world application, offering solutions to critical global issues.

Their audiences, from policymakers to the general public, expect a leader in geoscience innovation to be clear, sophisticated, and responsible. Their stakeholders need a platform that simplifies complex scientific information into actionable insights without compromising its authority. They want a digital experience that showcases CFIGS as a trusted steward of Earth's resources.

The CFIGS platform was built on Laravel, an enterprise web application framework, with a vision to deliver customer service excellence through a self-service portal containing customer quotes, projects and detailed final reports containing dynamic media.

Specific services offered by CFIGS are associated with news, research, media and case studies available on the platform. Visiting prospective clients can immediately add the services to a cart as they browse content to build a quote for their own project.

With a vast array of scientific services on offer, the website offers in-depth service filtering and project quotation management for operational efficiency.

Generative texturing

Raw TIMA map outputs used to analyse mineral content samples are repurposed as distinct brand devices. A generative gradient map treatment was applied, inspired by Python-driven data visualisation software used in their labs.

Mechanically consistent design system

Typography and Iconography are constructed within a shared design system, injecting a subtle tech feel, reflecting their approach to analysis and discovery.

Symbols found in the centre of CFIGS lab software are repurposed in a dynamic brand language library as a powerful asset for drawing attention to new findings.

We’re incredibly proud of this collaboration … The visual identity captures the scope and scale variation of our science, diving into the details that nod to our advanced analytical techniques, yet expands to still capture the epic essence of research on our planet, Earth.
