The Background

Tattarang is one of Australia’s largest private investment groups. They founded Wyloo Metals, a metals and mining business supporting the discovery and development of the next generation of mines.

Led by their multidisciplinary team of geologists, engineers and investment professionals, Wyloo Metals focus on the changing consumption habits associated with rising global standards of living and the transition to a low-carbon future.

Tattarang came to Juicebox for a future-focussed name, brand identity and digital experience reflecting exploration, discovery and new-age investment.

Brand Discovery

It was natural to embrace the beauty of Western Australia for the Wyloo brand. A guiding creative territory was, “exploring new territories”, and this lent itself to an elemental, earthy yet innovative and future-focused brand and digital experience.

A bedrock brand name

Tattarang founder Andrew Forrest’s historic Minderoo cattle station was a starting point for name exploration. ‘Wyloo’ is a geological bedrock formation nearby the station where Forrest grew up. We felt it captured an essence of earth, discovery and movement, as well as being personally and locally meaningful to the Tattarang company.

Exploring new territories

Guided by the creative territory “exploring new territories”, we used abstract aerial photography of Australian land and rocks, hinting at planets like Mars, to speak to exploration and discovery. The result? Earthy colours contrasted with blood oranges, dusty pinks, and sunset yellows.

Embracing earth

As often happens, the brand name sparked ideas for the brand identity to follow. The Wyloo rock formation lent itself to an earthy colour palette, particularly sandstone, which makes up the rock. The logomark represents the formation of rock, upwards movement and building a sustainable future through technology and innovation.

Seamless storytelling

An elemental brand seamlessly morphed into a minimalist yet striking website. Inspired by crosswords and other word games, the homepage animation reveals certain words representing the discovery of metal, and tells the story of a mining business forging a new way forward.
